Generators

The easiest way to charge the batteries is by using a propane, gas, or diesel generator. The following considerations are important for the use of generators:

a) You need to buy and store the source of fuel that you choose. Storage is a problem for diesel because of its short life span. Fuel may not always be available, especially in cases of natural disaster, and delivery may be a problem. Propane is the best choice because it can be stored for years, and it can also be used for heating, cooking, and refrigeration.

b) All these methods cause pollution, both air and noise.

c) Generators are non-renewable sources of energy.

d) Generators cannot be used as a permanent solution to power outages. They consume significant amounts of fuel (on average, a generator can consume about a gallon of fuel every two to three hours).

e) Generators are most useful as a backup for recharging batteries when you have consecutive days without wind or sun.
